A tragic accident in Cartersville led to a death and an arrest on Saturday night. Dispatch received a call reporting the accident at 9:17 p.m. Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the intersection of Joe Frank Harris Parkway and East Church Street.
Upon investigation, investigators reportedly determined that a green Honda CR-V, driven by 65-year-old Edilia Ramirez-Perez of Cartersville, was traveling north in the left turning lane of Joe Frank Harris Parkway, preparing to turn onto East Church Street. Simultaneously, a black Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading south in the right lane. Edilia allegedly failed to obey a traffic control device and did not yield to the Harley while turning left onto East Church Street. As a result, the motorcycle struck the right side of her Honda.
The motorcycle’s driver, 58-year-old Ronald Fernaays Junior of Cartersville, was transported to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries at 12:28 a.m. on Sunday.
Further investigation revealed that Edilia possessed only an unstamped passport and did not have a valid driver’s license. Edilia Ramirez-Perez was taken into custody and charged with driving without a license, failing to obey a traffic control device, and second-degree vehicular homicide.
