NATIONAL NEWS Police: 7 dead after tour van, pickup truck crash near Henry’s Lake State Park


 SALT LAKE CITY – Seven people were killed after a van of tourists collided with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 Thursday night, Idaho State Police said.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., Idaho State Police said troopers responded to a crash near mile marker 399 on Highway 20 in eastern Idaho near Henry’s Lake State Park.

A Dodge Ram pickup heading west and a Mercedes passenger van heading east, toward Yellowstone National Park, collided. Both caught fire after the crash, police said.

“The van was reportedly transporting a tour group,” Idaho State Police said in a release.

Six occupants of the van and the driver of the pickup truck were killed in the crash, police said. The van was transporting 14 people in total.

Medical personnel responded and dispatched “one air ambulance and additional air and ground resources,” due to the severity of the injuries, police said. Three people were taken to hospitals in Bozeman and Idaho Falls by helicopter.

One of the victims was identified as 25-year-old Isaih Moreno of Humble, Texas. The identities of the six others killed were not released at the time of publication, pending next-of-kin are notified. Police said that process would take some time due to the complexity of the event.

Police said the Fremont County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of each death.

Highway 20 was closed following the collision for investigation.
