PORT ARTHUR, Texas (Gray News) - Three construction workers are dead and two are injured following an industrial accident in Texas.
Officials say just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, scaffolding gave way and two employees fell to their deaths at a Port Arthur LNG site under construction on South Gulfway Drive.
A third worker who also fell later died at the hospital.
KBMT reports that Bechtel Global Corporation, the construction contractor at the site, confirmed that a “tank jump form system incident occurred at elevation,” resulting in fatalities and injuries.
Two other workers who were on the scaffolding didn’t fall and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
There was no immediate word given on what caused the collapse.
The reported collapse happened inside the plant construction site and prompted an immediate work stoppage at the massive industrial construction project.
The Port Arthur LNG project is in phase 1, which is a joint venture between Sempra Infrastructure and ConocoPhillips, KFDM reports.
Officials said the construction contractor, Bechtel, has suspended work on the site during the investigation.
